Third Edition of the World Sustainable Transport Day.

Every year on 26 November, World Sustainable Transport Day recognizes the essential role of safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems in advancing economic growth, promoting social welfare and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Through its resolution A/RES/77/286, adopted in May 2023, the United Nations General Assembly invites Member States, the UN system, regional and international organizations, and civil society to commemorate the Day through education and awareness-raising activities dedicated to sustainable transport.

As the international community prepares to launch the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035), this Day takes on renewed significance. The Decade will be an opportunity to further raise awareness of transport’s crucial role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and to gather new solutions, resources and partnerships to advance sustainable transport globally.

For the Asia–Pacific region, the Day is also a moment to reflect on progress and renew momentum. It showcases how policies, technologies and investments are already shaping a more accessible, efficient and climate-responsive transport future, while setting the stage for deeper cooperation under the Decade of Action.

Within this framework, ESCAP plays a key enabling role in evidence-based policymaking, strengthening regional cooperation, and supporting countries in building the capacity, partnerships and financing needed to achieve sustainable transport. On this occasion of 2025 World Sustainable Transport Day, ESCAP will share a dedicated series of blogs, and multimedia highlights that reflect on these efforts and inspire further collective action across Asia and the Pacific, showing how the spirit of one Day can inspire a Decade of shared action and commitment.
